Mini Piling in Macclesfield

Mini piling is something that’s used in the construction industry in order to make suitable foundations for different types of structures where the ground is not suitable. The process works by screwing or driving metal casings deep into the Earth and then filling them up with concrete in to form strong piles.

This process cannot be done by just anyone. It requires the expertise of a structural engineer to work out the exact number of piles needed and what the layout of them ought to be. They take into account several factors when doing this, like the ground conditions, the access to it, and the type of structure the piles will support.

When is Mini Piling needed?

It is something that can also be used in clay type grounds that are prone to expansion and/or shrinkage. In these cases, piles are driven deep down into the bedrock below. If there isn’t any bedrock below, then a structural engineer works to create a pile design that takes this fact into consideration.

Bottom Driven Piles

These piles use something known as an internal drop hammer in order to drive a closed end metal casing deep down into the Earth in order to create foundations for a structure. Once this has been done, the load of the hammer is removed and a strong reinforcement is put into place. It is then filled with concrete. In those instances where the Earth is dense, drilling is required in order to let them to reach the depth needed.

These type of piles are used regularly to support buildings, walls and even bridges, and can be cost effective. Bottom driven piles can also be used for embankments, for retaining walls and for anchorage structures.

Bottom drive pile foundations are described as that when they are three times as deep as they are wide. The piles are long and thin columns that are made out of a preformed material, with a predetermined shape and size. They are put into the ground by impact hammering, vibrating and/or pushing them directly into the ground. If the ground is too dense, then pre drilling is required.
